Really happy with this item the sound quality is really good and if baby isn't making any noise you can't tell that its on.I especially like the talk back function on the hand set which means you don't always have to go into the room to soothe them.I have had other monitors and non of the others I have used has had such clear sound quality.I highly recommend.

We have bought this baby monitor for our third child after a bit of a gap with the previous two. We found this one more convenient than the one we used for the first two. We like the functionality of it and the fact that the sound is very clear and without interefence. From the receiving unit you are able to set the level of sensitivity which is a pleasant feature. It allows you to set it in such a way that you hear your baby breathing or that you only start hearing things when there are louder noises (like crying). The parent unit can work on either rechargeable batteries or on an adapter. The batteries can be replaced, so in time when they wear out, you do not need to replace the whole unit. The baby unit can work only on normal (non-rechargeable) batteries and on an adapter. The baby unit will only work when it has batteries inserted in it. Another nice feature is the talk back funtion on the parent unit.
During the six month when we have used this baby monitor we have experienced twice that the parent unit was somehow not able to connect with the baby unit. On both occasions this was solved by fiddling with the batteries in the baby unit. So not a big issue for us.

From a baby monitor, reliability was one of the most important things we looked for and the Philips Avent SCD510 provided. We knew the make well with the Avent bottles so knew the quality would be high on this monitor. It was easy to set up and have never had any problem with performance. The sound was very clear picking up babies' movements easily with no noise interruption which had been a problem with other monitors and the light showing a link between the receiver and unit has always put us at ease knowing they are connected.
The receiver is a great advantage as it is portable and there is a good range so haven't had to worry about moving too far from the unit while in the house. Parent talk back has saved us running up and down the stairs at times. Battery life was also impressive with a flashing light and beeping noise when it does need recharged.

Pros:clear sound, no disturbance, no breakage of link, speaker on parent unit so you could talk to your baby
cons:Parent unit needs to be charged frequently, sound from the parent unit is very low...would need to carry it on you to be able to hear your baby.

Aside from one minor flaw, this baby monitor is ideal. Reception is great, sound is very clear, the parent unit is rechargeable which is super convenient.
We used it in a restaurant - our hotel room was on the floor above and across a bit - and the reception was perfect.
The flaw is that as the restaurant filled up it became clear that the parent unit's maximum volume was not really high enough. We would have heard a screaming fit, but not the early sounds of wakening, which really is when you want to be intervening.
Now, baby monitors are usually used in restaurants, so it doesn't ruin a good product, but the volume issue does seem to crop up quite often in the reviews.
