Fantastic. This monitor is brilliant. The sound is very clear and the signal goes a long way.
The lights are very useful too, so you can see if your baby is awake if you can't hear it. You can also turn the volume down during dinner and still see from the lights if your baby wakes up. I would recommend it to anyone.

The only thing this product has going for it is the price. We needed a simple no frills monitor with lights as well as sound and thought that this may be fine. It's sound quality is terrible and it was almost impossible to hear anything but hissing no matter where we placed it. Awfull monitor and was returned for a refund.

I decided to buy this Fisher Price monitor after being attracted by the price and also that it was a well-known baby goods brand. Most of the reviews I read for all kinds of monitors had reports of interference no matter how expensive, so thought may as well go for a basic one if that's the case and spend the money on other things.
I was initially disappointed with the interference and buzzing when I first removed it from the box and tested it out and no matter where I placed the monitor/receiver it wouldn't make a difference the loud buzz was there. I was contemplating returning the product the noise was that bad. I assumed the problem must be my wi-fi router or other radio signals in the area.
Then I had a closer look at the instructions and it mentioned something about making sure the power cable should not be tangled or crossed over itself as it uses it for reception or something. At this point I had the power lead still tied up in a coil as it was supplied in the box. I untangled the transmitter power lead (the baby side unit) and stretched it out long and taut from the power socket and placed the monitor so the wire was laid out straight. I did the same with the receiver and found the furious static buzzing had gone, and replaced by a gentle low 'murmur' and I decided to keep it since it was a total improvement from before!
The monitor is very sensitive and picks up baby's slightest whimper although breathing is not picked unless its heavy. The light volume indicator is also a good feature and brings baby activity to your attention should the sound be drowned by other noise in the room you are in (e.g. the TV).
The design of the monitor is not 'cutting edge' a high tech Philips/BT/Motorola design, but considering that this is a baby product the 'toy look' theme doesn't look too bad in the baby's room amongst the real toys & teddy bears and bright colours etc. I like the fact it looks baby-orientated, so that to most people it would look like a obvious baby monitor and they would leave it well alone. One of my colleagues has a motorola baby monitor, and everyone who notices it keeps picking it up or asking what it is (thereby more chance someone will accidentally turn it off) cos it looks like a cool gadget rather than a baby monitor.
The transmitter base is broad and flat, and the whole unit kind of reminds me of the millenium 02 arena dome! The broad design helps it to remain stable on many surfaces, eg beds, tables etc and the mic will still be facing the same direction you left it should the table be knocked etc.
Bad points: The orange light is woefully underpowered, to the point of being useless but this doesn't bother me. The main thing is works as it should and lets me know when my little one is in need. Also the power off light on the transmitter takes a while to fade out and switch off once you pressed the power button, which initially confused me to think it was still on until I realised it takes a while to go off.
Haven't used the receiver in 'portable' mode (ie with batteries and hooked to my belt) yet. I've always attached to mains. Rather would not want to risk the battery to die unnoticed and be unaware of baby's state only to realise the unit isn't on.
Anyways, totally recommended product. Cheap, great value and works well when you follow the instructions!!
